I had a great day yesterday, one of those days when people just made me feel special. At school we usually bring chocolates in when it is our birthday but Kath said that she would bake scones for everybody instead. Sue brought in the cream. Ann whipped it and with Lynn set everything up in the staff-room. When I returned from lunch duty, everybody was there eating cream teas. They sang ‘Happy Birthday’ too, which was a little embarrassing. In the evening I rushed around trying to find a frame for Sue’s Borneo Expedition picture, bought an Ipod (!) on the spur of the moment and then went to Traci’s for a dinner party. We had a great evening, although it was clear that British and American humour are quite different. Traci read about men working with bullocks on the back of the book LuAnne gave me. She thought they had spelled the word incorrectly. The following explanation of the difference an ‘o’ or ‘u’ makes to the meaning of this word in British English caused some hilarity. The mental image of a bollock cart reduced Chris, Paula, Gill and I to tears. Our American friends (Sue, Kayla, Traci, LuAnne and Steve) just looked on in amazement.
