When I was in Singapore I was surprised to find that wifi internet access was expensive and not very wide-spread. Well, that has just changed. The government has just shelled out US$63 million to provide island wide wifi. What is more, they are providing it free of charge for the next two or three years. To further help people take advantage of the internet, the government is subsidising computers for low income earners - computers for US$179 for those earning less than US$125 a month. Mind you, quite how you survive on less that US$125 a month in Singapore is a a bit of a puzzle.
