A bus that actually goes to Penang

For the first time ever a bus that promised to take me to Penang actually dropped me off in Chulia Street rather than at the ferry terminal at Butterworth. A becak driver pounced on me as soon as I stepped onto the road, wanting to know where I was going. “I think I’ll try the Cathay,” I said. An excellent choice, you choose well sir, he told me in a very English accent, an old Indian, the product of a pre-independence British education. I walked there; the product of a post-independence British education that doesn’t pay well.
