Well, its not Singapore

With Brunei being one of the richest countries in the world, I rather expected the city state to be something like Singapore. At only 372 thousand the country’s population is small however. Nor is it really on the tourist trail; so I was being rather naive. In the space of a couple of hours this morning Dave and I visited all the main shopping areas. Not terribly exciting and not much to buy. I bought four plastic bags. By eleven o’clock I had already decided that there was no place for Brunei on my shortlist of future working destinations.

In late afternoon we went for a walk with the next door neighbour. There isn’t much of the jungle left, but a local hill, crisscrossed by trails cut by the local Gurkha regiment, is just large enough for you to get lost and sweaty in.
