All the way to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to drink French wine in a Spanish restaurant. At two pounds a glass it is expensive by local food standards. You can eat five times for that amount, if you are careful and don’t look too closely at the kitchen. The tapas was very good, although possibly not worth the money, considering the quality of the local food on offer. The wine though, following a ten month enforced abstinence, was wonderful. No matter how good Saudi home brew tastes at the time, it is, in reality, as awful as the memory of my taste buds.
I went for a long run before dinner, finding my way to the base of KL Tower. From afar I was unimpressed, but close up it is a magnificent structure. The only way you can see the top of the telecommunications tower is by lying in the car park, although you have to ignore the strange looks. Having been running here for a few days now I have grown used to that anyway. I got completely lost once I left the tower and its ‘city forest’ gardens. Then I turned a corner and found myself almost back at the hotel. My sense of direction has never been too reliable.
Last night I slept on my headphones, an action neither comfortable or to be advised. I woke to find a pain under my left shoulder blade and on feeling for it found a hard lump. That a tumor could grow so quickly induced a sudden, intense panick. Fortunately it fell off, leaving a round, plug shaped impression. Now one of the ear pieces doesn’t work. Discovering this was somewhat of a relief as I earlier thought I had gone deaf in one ear.
Time passes so quickly. I had to check my diary this morning to determine how long I have been on holiday. Saudi Arabia already seems a distant memory and the summer stretches before me without visible end. Wonderful. Just need more money.
